Saturday July 3rd, my last chance to qualify for Worlds. I started training last winter with only one goal: Qualify for the 1500m at the World Junior Championships in Canada. I never told a lot of people about my goal  because up untill 6 weeks ago my chances were very small because of an injury at my right foot. I started training easy about 6-7 weeks ago without any pressure. Worlds was still in my head but it wasn't a goal anymore. After weeks of hard work I went to Nijvel for my first outdoor race of the season. Nijvel was good for a first race (3:50.16), but I felt there was more.

In Oordegem, I got accepted in the main program, something I'm very thankful for. Without any pressure I took off in a race with some top class 1500m runners from all over the world. I settled myself at the back of the pack and just followed. The pacemaker was going too slow. I passed the 800m in 2'02 and felt I had a lot left over. With one lap to go the runner in front of me tripped and fell on the track. Luckily I managed to get around him without any harm. At the moment I had to move for the runner on the ground, the front pack took off hard. In this way I lost contact with the front pack and had to chase them on my own. With a very strong last lap, I managed to get back and finish close to the front pack in a superb 3:46.39.
Less than a second off the WJC standard.

At this point my 3:46.39 is:

#17 in Europe (Juniors)
#43 in the World (Juniors)

My next race is the KBC-Night in Heusden-Zolder.
