Update - High Performance Running Team 12/30/2010
After a long period of injuries (achilles tendon), I'm back in training. My mileage is not yet what it has to be, but it's a start. The shape I'm in right now is not something to be proud of. I know I have a long way to go and it ain't going to be easy to break that 1500m PB this summer. But I think I got the right people around me now to get back there. Something I learned in the past year and something what a lot of people forget in europe is that running is actually a teamsport. You're not reaching your highest potentials on your own, whatever those potentials may be. I'd like to say thanks so the guys of High Performance Running Team to give me the opportunity to be a member of this team and get a shot at reaching my highest potential. We'll see how it goes. Cheers. 1 Comment Weeks after trainingcamp: update 07/22/2010
After my trainingcamp at altitude, I took about 2.5 downweeks of running to get rested up for my races. During these weeks, I did a few quality work-outs combined with recovery runs. Last week, I started building up my mileage again and I hope to continue training at this level to get ready for the Flanders Cup in Ninove. This weeks work-outs show that my fitness level is still high and that I just need to keep up the good work. Mondays work-out was 2x 1K (2'44-2'42) and 5x 400m (59-59-58-58-58) which felt really great. I felt like I could run these repeats almost effortlessly which was a great confidence booster. Wednesdays work-out was a tough one because I wasn't fully recovered of mondays work-out. The work-out consisted of 5x2x300m which I averaged in 42.6. After about 4 repeats i started feeling sluggish and slow but this was gut check time. I pushed through and managed to run through the pain barrier. This was exactly what I needed. To end, an explanation for my DNS at the national championship; A couple of days before the night of athletics in Heusden, I started feeling a bit sick and weak. This lasted for about 10 days. Now, I think I can say I got through this period and I hope better days (of competition) will be there again soon. Keep it up Short notice: No National Championships 07/14/2010
I won't start this weekend in the national championship race. My next race will be the Memorial Rasschaert in Ninove on August 7th. See you there! Maarten KBC-Nacht 07/10/2010
3:55.02 Not what I expected from my race, but what can I say; bad days are just a part of it. Now I'll have a good night of sleep, dust myself off in the morning, and try it again at the Flanders Cup meet at Ninove in August. Next week there's the national outdoor championship in Brussels. We'll see what the legs say... Read More Photos Results Racing Tomorrow 07/09/2010
Tomorrow I'll be racing the 1500m at the KBC-Nacht in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium. I'll start in the B-section at 6.30 pm (11.30 am Houston time) I suffered a little bit from a cold last week but it's a lot better. It should be a good race. Go Big or Go Home 07/04/2010
I went Big yesterday in Oordegem, but not big enough to represent Belgium at the World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada. Don't get me wrong, I am extremely satisfied with my performance. Read More Results New Website 07/02/2010
Welcome to Maarten Van Dyck's new website. Since I'm not going back to the States next year, my old blogs name 'maartengoesamerica.skynetblogs.be' doesn't make sense anymore. Therefore I made a brandnew Website on Weebly.com. I will try to update the website as much as possible. Maarten Van Dyck |
