MAARTEN VAN DYCK - Track and Field runner

After my trainingcamp at altitude, I took about 2.5 downweeks of running to get rested up for my races.
During these weeks, I did a few quality work-outs combined with recovery runs.
Last week, I started building up my mileage again and I hope to continue training at this level to get ready for the Flanders Cup in Ninove.  This weeks work-outs show that my fitness level is still high and that I just need to keep up the good work.
Mondays work-out was 2x 1K (2'44-2'42) and 5x 400m (59-59-58-58-58) which felt really great. I felt like I could run these repeats almost effortlessly which was a great confidence booster. Wednesdays work-out was a tough one because I wasn't fully recovered of mondays work-out. The work-out consisted of 5x2x300m which I averaged in 42.6. After about 4 repeats i started feeling sluggish and slow but this was gut check time. I pushed through and managed to run through the pain barrier. This was exactly what I needed.

To end, an explanation for my DNS at the national championship;

A couple of days before the night of athletics in Heusden, I started feeling a bit sick and weak. This lasted for about 10 days. Now, I think I can say I got through this period and I hope better days (of competition) will be there again soon.

Keep it up

Spijtig dat je niet kon meedoen aan BK. Maar uiteraard de beste keuze. Niet fit door ziekte = niet meedoen. Trainingen zijn inderdaad veelbelovend. Wat ga je lopen in Ninove?

You have to believe in yourself. That's the secret of success.
